Privacy Policy

WA Private Mode ("the extension", "we", "our") is an independent, unofficial browser extension that adds optional visual-privacy blurring to the user's own WhatsApp Web session. This policy explains what data the extension does — and does not — access, store, or share.

In short: WA Private Mode does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Everything it does happens locally, inside your own browser, on your own device.

1. What the extension does

When you enable a toggle in the extension's popup, WA Private Mode applies a visual blur to specific elements on the WhatsApp Web page (web.whatsapp.com) that you are already logged into — for example, contact photos, contact names, message previews, conversation content, and the message composer input. Blurred content becomes visible again when you hover over it. The extension does not alter, intercept, read, or transmit the content of your messages in any way.

2. What data we collect

We do not collect any of the following, now or in the future:

Personally identifiable information (name, email, phone number, etc.)
Message content, contacts, photos, or any WhatsApp data
Location, browsing history, or activity on other websites
Authentication credentials of any kind
Analytics, usage tracking, or telemetry of any kind

The extension does not have a server or backend. It cannot transmit data anywhere because it does not make any network requests to us or to any third party.

3. Data stored locally on your device

The extension stores only your feature toggle preferences (which blur options you've turned on or off) using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This:

Never leaves Google's standard Chrome sync mechanism tied to your own signed-in Chrome profile
Is not accessible to us, to WhatsApp, or to any other third party
Contains no message content and no personal information — only on/off flags for each toggle

4. Permissions we request, and why

Permission	Purpose
`storage`	Remember which blur toggles you've enabled
`activeTab`	Detect that you're on web.whatsapp.com so the popup can apply settings to that tab
`scripting`	Inject the CSS classes that create the blur effect on the active WhatsApp Web tab
`host_permissions` — web.whatsapp.com	The extension only ever runs on WhatsApp Web; it has no access to any other website you visit

5. Third parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any data with third parties, because we do not collect any data in the first place. The extension contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts, and makes no network requests of its own.

6. Children's privacy

The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, since it collects no personal data from any user.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a revised "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

WA Private Mode is an independent, unofficial project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc. "WhatsApp" is a trademark of its respective owner.
